I loved my recent trip to Sedona and I already want to return. I'm looking for advice on the best times to visit. I'm wondering what the crowds are like in Summer, Fall, Winter.

Summers in Sedona are not as busy as spring or fall, but summer is still a popular time for visiting. The temperatures in Sedona will break 100 in summer, but we're usually 15 or 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. Summer is a popular time for Phoenix folks to drive up -- you'll find more Arizona locals than "internationals" in summer. Some of the hikes (those without shade) are better done in spring, fall, or winter; however, many of the trails, such as West Fork, have plenty of shade.

I like Sedona at all times of the year, but winter is great because the crowds are thin, and you can occasionally catch a few snow flakes.

Best time to visit? The week in May just prior to memorial Day weekend. Temperatures usually in the high 70's to mid 80's, cactus flowers in bloom, crowds are less than earlier or later in the spring. Opinions are worth what you pay for them, but that's my opinion.

It's hard to beat the scenery in April and May in Sedona and all around Arizona. Tourism is big during those months though. Early June is less crowded and not yet especially hot. If you don't mind ninety degree + temps, come out in July or August. You get better deals on everything, especially if you are spending any time in Phoenix or Tucson and need to get a motel down there. Tourism picks up again in September and gets very busy in october here in Sedona, but that's because we get the mild weather and leaf changes that most of Arizona does not get. Of course, September and Oct are busy months and you will not be on the trailheads by yourself and you will probably need to make reservations at motels ahead of time. Restaurants get busy during those months too. If you want to be treated like royalty and have the sights of Sedona to yourself, come in January or February. You will probably need to wear a light or even a medium-weight jacket, but it's quiet in town and everyone will want your business. You don't have to make reservations at the restaurants during those months and the Jeep Drivers will definitely appreciate your business since they don't make much money those months. I like January and February tourists best. They're hard core, almost like locals.

If you like it hot, you should come to Sedona today. 107! Still cooler than Phoenix and Las Vegas and at least we have Slide Rock Park where we can cool down, but I can't wait til it starts cooling back down tomorrow.

Sure is nice in Sedona right now. Mid to low 80's. Couldn't be better afternoon hiking weather.

This week (the beginning of October, 2nd thru 13th) has been great hiking and walkabout weather both in Sedona and at the grand canyon. The temperatures have been in the high seventies and the sky has been sunny and cloudless. Wonderful sunsets. I also suggest everyone go to Sedona Green when you visit Sedona. They were not the easiest store to find but they are worth finding. They were my favorite place to locate stuff to take home with me to remember my vacation, and very nice people behind the counter.

I'm loving it now (middle December). Snow like powdered sugar on the red rocks. Not many other people around because of the chilly air and some drizzle. But really great for taking photographs. The red rocks stand out against the morning fog. And it is supposed to get warmer later this week. Really is the most beautiful place in America.

March is good. Cold at night, but the days are perfect for the long hikes. By the end of March the trees will have buds and the beginnings of leaves.
