Eight Vampires Inside, Eight Outside.

Urban Legends &
the
Ocho Vampiros Card GameI think there's a vampire in my closet.

Fast-paced and easy-to-learn, the Ocho Vampiros Card Game is based on the urban legend of The Illegal Traveler--a young Mexican groom loses his wife due to a jealous prank then travels to the USA with hopes of finding a more easy-going lover; sadly, his journey leads him to a vampire.  Details of the young man's character, transformation and even sexual orientation vary, but the ending is always the same: the unfortunate groom and seven other love-hungry, young migrants lose their mortality and, themselves, become vampires.  From Nogales to Tucson to Phoenix . . . El Paso, San Diego, San Antonio . . . LA, Miami, Orlando, Austin . . . NYC, London, Tokyo . . . the migration of this urban legend appears to follow the travels of these vagrant "Vampiros," who move house-to-house in search of unlocked doors with amorous residents sleeping or awake.

The following is one version of The Illegal Traveler:

A poor but handsome man from Torreon married a beautiful and wealthy young woman.  As a couple, they moved into the bride's parents' home in Chihuahua.  The bride's sister slept in the room adjacent to the couple's bedroom, and she became jealous.

The family hosted a party for the new couple.  The sister was placed in charge of preparing a goat.  As the meat cooked, she spit upon it, over and over.  Her spittle sizzled and popped like cold grease.  She spit so much, she lost five pounds and her ribs protruded.  Guests who ate the meat became ill.  The bride and groom became dizzy.  Both retired to their room.  Soon thereafter, the sister entered the couples' room.  The bride lay sleeping.  The groom lay in a delirium, unable to remove his shoes.  The younger sister undressed the groom and lay on the bed with him.  When the bride awoke, she was heartbroken and called for her father.  The groom was banished from the household.

Many players create their own Alt Games, such as "Safe Parks."

In search of work, he traveled the coastal towns between Los Mochis and Guaymas.  His heart ached, and he drifted.  He fell in with a group of cigar smokers who spoke of Arizona and California.  These men promised that women in the United States are good to love and never jealous.  The Groom paid a cigar man $500 to smuggle him over the border.  The Cigar Man owned a pick-up truck.  In the bed, there were eight coffins.  He told The Groom to climb into a coffin.

"The patrol will not open a coffin," he explained.  The Groom hesitated.  "Do not be a coward," The cigar Man said.  "See this drink?"  He handed The Groom a cup.  "This will make you sleep.  When you wake, you will be in Arizona with beautiful women.  The groom accepted the potion and climbed into a coffin.  As predicted, the truck passed into Arizona with no harassment.  However, when they reached the yellow desert on Interstate 8, The Cigar Man stopped his truck.  With haste and sadness, he unloaded the eight coffins and dragged them over the berm.  He pushed the coffins into a sand pit and covered them over.  In each coffin lay a young man, heartbroken, dreaming of travel to where women are not jealous.

Women, dear women, beware now the eight young travelers who awoke and could not exit their boxes until death gave them pass.  For now they walk, and masculine hunger urges them to take you to their desert box.
